Wordpress.com sucks

Posted on November 17, 2005.

I'm cross posting this, it's my last entry on my Wordpress.com blog:

I'll tell you why Wordpress.com sucks. One word: community. Not the big community. Each blogger's little community.

On Livejournal it was allright. Everyone had a friends page, and you could always read what your friends were saying by opening that page; it was like one big feed aggregator for all your friends; your own little community. If one of your friends posted, you knew right away. If you posted, your friends would come read right away. Community.

On Xanga it was even better. It was the only good thing Xanga had. They had blogrings. Oh, wow, I miss that. Nobody, and I mean it, nobody, has ever beaten the blogring. The blogring is a blogroll for everyone in the ring. You can be in as many blogrings as you want, and when Xanga users are done writing, they go to their blogrings and read what other ring members have to say. Pure genius. I'm convinced to this day that Xanga's success depends solely on the blogring. There's no better way to keep up with your clique. Community.

You know what Wordpress.com has? Promotion. The top blogs, the fastest growing, the latest posts. But not community. Not at all. There's a crappy little blogroll, but let's face it: that's not nearly as awesome as the aggregators at Xanga and Livejournal. Not at all.

At least at my website, I can use plugins like "technorati tagging" and my SEO techniques to bring in a little traffic. And occasionally I get visitors who gawk at my attractive layout, if nothing else. At Wordpress.com? Nothing. A waste of my time.

So I'm out. No more posts, until Matt and the gang manage to think of a good way to build a sense of community here. I'll stick to my website, with my nice, self-hosted Wordpress install, and my groups at Livejournal. Good old Livejournal.

So you're coming back to Livejournal?? I thought you had decided to quit that, too.

I'll use Livejournal if I need to whine. Otherwise I still would like to keep up with some of the communities I'm in, and read other journals (like yours). I do hope to get you on this self-hosted blogging thing soon. Just so much to do, so little time :(

the entire wordpress / automattic company is a scam. all they care about is getting bigger and they don't have any problem hurting individuals or businesses while doing it. the owner, matt mullenweg, is a sad self-worshipper who has let the press get into his funny-looking head. hopefully the investors will wake up soon, because this company is not going too far with their unfair practices and mistreating everybody. they'll crash just as fast as they got big.

and it sounds like their product sucks too so there you have it.

WordPress.com has repeatedly refused to do anything about a hosted blog on their web site beyond deleting the images.

This blog has violated my copyright rights 3 times and violated my privacy twice all within a week and continues to harass me.

Does WP care? Not at all. So I agree WordPress.com sucks. They refuse to ever delete a blog for even violating their own TOS over and over. They don’t care how their users harass others. WordPress.com is very poorly run to say the least.
