The final final exam

Posted on December 12, 2005.

I had my last final exam this morning. The semester is officially over for me. Now I just wait for my grades.

My last exam was Microelectronics. This was my worst class this semester so studying involved attempting to learn everything I missed throughout the course. It wasn't easy at all, and I was only able to start studying last Saturday, right after my German Language exam.

I studied everything. Practice problems, homeworks, lab reports, lecture notes… everything. It was really boring, I hate studying, and I kept thinking about everything else I would do once finals were over. Studying went kind of slow on Saturday, and I didn't get a full night's sleep. Sunday I decided to head to the computer lab and study there. I was there for hours, with a couple other students, just reading, complaining, and talking about how bad the class was. The only thing I broke for was dinner. I was going crazy, too… the labs had IE 6 with Java disabled, so I couldn't play any games during breaks. Maybe that was a good thing.

At 2 AM a friend called me and asked if I wanted to come to his place to study. I figured, sure, I'm not getting anywhere anymore so working with others might help. You could say it was a study party since there ended up being 4 of us there. We were discussing stuff, explaining things to each other, solving problems, so on. I ate some popcorn for energy, but I was too sleep deprived, and at 5 AM I wanted to sleep. So I did. My friends woke me up at 8, and it turned out they had all slept a couple hours as well. I went out and bought myself a nice breakfast, egg sandwich and capuccino, and then I headed to the exam.

2 and a half hours, 10 questions… I really dislike exams. At least I've gotten used to taking them, but they are still frustrating and boring. Maybe this one didn't go so bad, I think I learned a lot over the weekend, so I'll have to wait until I get my score to find out.

What matters is I'm free! For a month or so. At least that gives me enough time to catch up on some web projects I've been meaning to work on. So watch this space for a lot of activity, at least over the next week. I promise I won't disappoint.
