A new design and more to come

Posted on January 12, 2006.

I hate seeing this website all half-done, in a state of transition, longing for attention like a lonely stepchild, but that's just the way it is. I have all these ideas in my head about how the new design will look, and what it will have, and how I'm going to code everything, and I'm okay with giving it time, because that just means that the end result will come out good. I'm not quite as motivated to blog when I don't have a spankingly beautiful website, but there's nothing I can do about that. I know my fiancé feels the same way, and I'm sure other people would agree. Your personal blog is like you, online. You don't want to open your mouth if you have an ugly face. Have you ever seen an ugly person who talks a lot? Okay, there are lots of them. Where was I?

I've been working on my fiancé's website, and so far I have this to show for it: http://www.foxymcloud.com. It's getting there, the layout structure seems to be pretty solid, at least in modern Windows and Mac browsers, and the visual design is, well, not hideous. I managed to pull off a few techniques that I was thinking up as I went along. I think of the final result as a "liquid kubrik," with lots of transparent png's and modern, feminine flair. I'm still waiting for my fiancé to say, "Wow, I love my new website, it's really pretty," and show it to all her family and friends, and I might wait for that for the rest of my life, so I guess I'll just be patient and keep waiting.

The only things I have left to do on her site is customize the Guestblock, add gravatars and admin highlighting, and help her put together some content pages. Well, that is, unless she thinks of something else. It just takes time because I'm very busy while I'm at home and I've been trying to balance my work with playing Animal Crossing: Wild World, which is very time consuming on its own. I've even forgone playing Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS, or We Love Katamari to play Wild World as much as possible, because it just rules so much more, and I'm really stoked about making as much money as possible and upgrading my house and doing everything else there is to do. If I could put life on hold to finish the game, I probably would, but I keep getting hungry and tired and stuff like that. I guess I'm just not hardcore enough. Where was I again?

Oh yes, check out the new design and let me know what you think. Do you like it? Is it cool? Maybe one of the few liquid Wordpress themes out there? Enough to justify a new theme to distribute? Tell me all about it. I'm listening.

"I’m still waiting for my fiancé to say, “Wow, I love my new website, it’s really pretty,” and show it to all her family and
    friends "

Instead you're getting, " What the heck did you do to it! YuCK!"

I'm kidding. I know I need to help you out with it. Just let me get through this week. :(

Personally, I like the design of your site here much, much more, but it's cute. Seems to be very, very basic / featureless, though. I'm working on a redesign as well right now, and my goal is to add as much ajax gloss and web 2.0 goodness as there is!

Yeah, the features will be a long time coming, because I need time to sit down and code.

The only ajax I'll have in the redesign of my site is live comment previews, if that even qualifies. I don't think it does. I just don't see a need for ajax on this site. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.
