Hire Me

This past week was definitely very busy. I’m a vice president in the Engineering Student Council and this past Wednesday we held the Spring Career Fair. If you’ve never run a career fair, I can assure you that it’s very difficult. We had about 50 companies in attendance and I think at least 1000 students passed through. My fiancée was one of the coordinators so congrats to her on our most successful career fair yet.

This is a historical moment… the first real picture of me on this website. Now back to the topic…

I’m still looking for an internship, so this week was really important. If I stay in the U.S., I would definitely want to work for Intel, since they are all about my concentration (digital circuit design with a splash of analog here and there). Their corporate culture is nice too, and if I could work my way up to a permanent assignment in Israel, I would be really happy. Unfortunately I haven’t had an interview with Intel yet, so I’ll have to keep digging.

I did have an interview with Verizon Thursday morning. I’ve done the interview thing enough times now that I wasn’t nervous, and I think the whole thing went pretty well. One of the questions definitely surprised me though, it went along the lines of:

Tell me about a time you had to deal with the needs of the customer and how you did that.

This might not seem unusual on the surface but it was… I mean, how many customer oriented experiences have I had? 2, actually. At first I wasn’t sure what to say but then I told the interviewer about last summer at GE Rail, which would actually be a good topic for another day. The whole interview was allright and I might even have a chance with Verizon, though they wouldn’t be my first choice.

Plus, I’m still looking at options in Europe. I stopped by Cornell Career Services yesterday and asked about international internships. Turned out the lady in charge of international careers was in the room and she asked me what languages I speak. Before I could answer her, she said, “Please tell me you speak German!” I told her I’m in my second semester of German and she hinted that she had good news for me, but I won’t know until my meeting with her next Wednesday morning.

Exciting, right? My real, real top goal is to work in Hungary, but I’ll take what I can get for the summer. I would really like to see Germany, I have a great-grandfather who was German and a summer there sounds great. I’ll just have to wait and see what comes my way.
