It’s been almost a month since the final countdown started at GFY and I still have no idea what happened. There was some talk about a podcast and apparently one final detail was lacking, but a month has definitely been a long time. All I do know is that I no longer have posting privileges and I haven’t heard anything from the founders.
For anyone who hasn’t followed my site or GFY, I was asked to be a writer for GFY back in February of this year. It was kind of a big deal for me, since GFY was just about my favorite blog of all around that time. The opportunity to be a contributor to one of my favorite blogs on the net was extremely cool. This entry proves I was excited. We even rode back to the #10 spot on Wordpress.com for a while, and I was an internet celebrity, in the large boy-band member in a band serving a niche community sense.
But word to the wise: not posting for a month can really kill your site, especially when you average a post every two days. Most people are already asking if they should declare RIP on GFY and I can’t argue. I’m just angry that I’ve forgone writing new entries for so long regarding web 2.doh in the hopes that GFY would get their act together. I figure it’s time I move my efforts here and maybe keep it that way.
So I’ve added a new category (categories are sacred to me so this is a big deal). It’s called Flock It. I am going to archive my best entries from GFY in this category, with the same dates as they were posted, and I’m going to write any new entries I come up with there as well. So to all the fans who miss GFY and wonder where to turn next for witty counterpoint interweb snark, get this feed which queries the Flock It category only. Better yet, drop it right where your GFY feed currently resides. (Or you could get my main site feed and take the full dosage of christianmontoya.com.) And by all means, tell your friends and fellow fans. Tell Digg and del.icio.us. Just Flock It.
