Top 9 names of the NEXT web

Posted on June 13.

As exciting as it is to speculate over the Next Big Thing™ for the Interweb, there is no way for sure to know what it will be until it actually arrives. The only thing we can be sure of is that the NEXT web will not be called web 3.0. As shocking as it might seem, it's obvious that all the hoopla and hype over web 2.0 will create more bad publicity than good for the Interweb in the long run, forcing the NEXT web to distance itself from web 2.0 like Al Gore from Bill Clinton.

Lately I've been thinking about the best way to do it, and while I haven't come up with any good ideas, I do have 9 terrible ideas that I think have very good chances. Get ready to experience tomorrow, today, with:

Top 9 names of the NEXT web
9. Web 64
Web 64 will take advantage of widespread 64-bit computing, promising faster website processing and larger instructions for fat flash movies and advertisements. Despite all it's power, it will unfortunately be characterized by washed out colors and a poor lineup of websites at launch.
8. Web Reloaded
Web Reloaded will mostly be a lot of special effects without much valuable content. It will cause people to lose interest in the web.
7. Web Reboot
Web Reboot will be a whole lot prettier, which will be very refreshing considering how ugly web 2.0 tends to be.
6. Web Remix
Web Remix will be all the websites your parents loved, modernized to please the ever-changing tastes of youngsters. Expect hip new sites like Gazoogle, Yafoo!, and Ebizzay.
5. Web Future Perfect
This is actually a terrible name, but it's not so bad considering the other options on this list. I can't think of any features though, so I'll skip it.
4. Web X
Web X will be totally eXtreme, but most people will not understand it (2 lame jokes in 1 sentence… I'm a pro).
3. Web Vista
Web Vista will actually be a major dissappointment. It will launch behind schedule and lack a lot of features originally promised.
2. Web DS
Web DS will take advantage of dual monitors, microphones, and touch-screen interaction. With the new onWrite and onDoodle events, users will experience the web in ways you never thought possible.

And the best name for the NEXT web is…

1. Web beta
Forget version numbers. The new web will be in permanent beta. Users won't have to download updates. Updates will be implemented into the system, so users will always get the latest features and enhancements. Web 2.0 was about money. Web beta is about people. Invest now.

very creative. Several of these sound very possible… I would guess it'll be called iWeb. It seems placing an "i" in front of any word these days will make it the new cool. iLOL.

    I can't beleive you missed "Web Revolution" and/or "Weeb"…

  4. C Montoya on June 14, 2006

Web Revolution was too obvious, and Weeb… I'm not that creative.

Web Mash-Up - instead of Remix. Remix "is so 90ies" :P

  6. C Montoya on June 14, 2006

That's exactly it. Web Remix is a return to the "roots." It's a part of the necessary distancing from web 2.0. Mash-up is a 2.0 thing and those things gotta go!

Holy hell, I think you might be on to something with Web Remix — they've already thought of Gizoogle.com.
