Your blog is the best blog there is

Posted November 4 in Blogging.

Let me tell you a little secret about blogging. It may be that no one has ever told you this before, but I’m telling you now because you ought to know:

Your blog is the best blog there is.

I know it’s a hard concept to grasp. Everyone is always saying that “some other blog” is the best blog out there and everyone can only hope to imitate that. I know everyone is always saying that the best you can ever hope for is a niche blog that only makes the small-time. I know it’s easy to feel like you’ll never have a lot of readers or get any compliments.

But if you really love blogging, and you want to reach the top, you need to believe deep down inside that the best blog on the Interweb is yours.

Every day you need to try to improve your own writing, not because you want to be more like Famous XYZ Blogger, but because you want to be even better than you already are.

This is what the most successful bloggers never tell you; successful bloggers never feel like Z-List material. From day 1 they know that they can reach the top of the Blogosphere with enough hard work and commitment. For them, it’s just a matter of time.

And for you, too, because your blog is the best blog there is.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn things from other bloggers. For every topic there is a community and there are a lot of writers out there that you can learn from. Other bloggers can inspire you and you can find new ways to approach your writing that you would have never thought about before. You just have to believe that you are capable of quality writing.

Hey, if you aren’t sure of yourself, just remember the rules:

  1. Love what you do.
  2. Never stop learning.
  3. Form works with function.
  4. Simple is beautiful.
  5. Work hard, play hard.
  6. You get what you pay for.
  7. When readers talk, you listen.
  8. Must constantly improve.
  9. Respect your inspiration.

So keep that optimism going, and use it to your advantage. Your blog is the best blog there is, it’s just a matter of letting the whole world know.

Are you sure that’s not your ego talking? The idea of best requires absolute standards, not wishful thinking.

Elliot: Someone told me today that I am the new Elliot Bäck. Doesn’t that make your blog the best blog there is?

  4. Elliott C. Back November 5, 2006

I refuse to be flattered. I’ve got a hot design I’m working on. Once I roll that out, I’ll get back to working on more interesting content.

NICE! Respect your inspiration, you write. Indeed. Thanks for the inspiration. It’s all about eliminating all of those little notes-to-self like “remember to blog this later” that all just end up piling on top of each other behind that node just to the left of the cerebral cortex. Time to get rid of those notes before they get written. Blog immediately, as soon as it strikes, right?

  6. Edrei November 5, 2006

No. My blog is the best blog there is out there. :P More so cause I don’t have to be popular to be read anyway. :)

  7. Anthony November 5, 2006

No, I Am Spartacus! Sorry what were you talking about? Blogs??? My blog is so good I don’t even need to post there for 5 months.

  8. Yannick November 5, 2006

    Thanks for the encouragement Christian.

oh that’s a compliment, thanks. Same to you :)

Abhilash: Blogging as soon as it strikes usually is a great idea… I’ve definitely thrown out quite a few “blog this later” post it notes. Often times I don’t even look at those notes, I just come to my computer with a fresh idea for an entry that I thought of moments before and I go for it.

Aww. That is so inspiring. lol

I guess I’m just different from everyone else because I’ve never aspired to be the best. I’ve only tried to do my best. I don’t believe in “the best out there” because, really how do you know?

I get visitors, but I’m not militant about it. If they come, they come. If they don’t then they lose out on my fabulous opinions.

    lol

Ok. I shall say it over and over again…

My blog is THE BEST BLOG IN THE INNTERWEB.

I completely agree with you. Personally i like to think of my blog as the best, even if it isn’t. I just value what i write and enjoy what i’m doing, which is enough. Sure, comments and compliments are sweet, but they aren’t everything.

  14. Christian Montoya November 6, 2006

M, I think you have the right idea :) It’s all about being confident! Not arrogant, just confident.

  15. Corinne November 6, 2006

Oy, speaking of arrogance. I’m personally getting annoyed at the increased # of web designer/bloggers who feel the need to criticize others because they apparently have nothing better to talk about.

Sorry about the negative comment, and it hasn’t happened to me, but I’d love to see more bloggers with positive posts like yours instead of 9999999 posts on why “X” site sucks and why their site/experience/etc. is better.

Corrine: To be honest, I’ve been guilty of that too, but come to think of it, you’re right. There aren’t enough optomistic posts out there. I’d like to see more too.
