In case you didn’t know already, I got into blogging indirectly as a result of learning CSS. It’s a longer and slightly more interesting story than that but that’s for another day. It’s nice to have these blogs because every time I draw up a new design for one I get some hands-on practice with my CSS skills… by now I’m getting really good with all the CSS techniques I use.
I’ve done two redesigns since the start of this year and what’s most amazing is that in both cases I was able to do it all without changing more than a few div tags in the markup. I kid you not. When I redesigned I Have Senioritis, the total number of changes I made to the HTML amounted to moving one div tag. When I redesigned Liquid Designs, all I had to do was move a couple div tags and add a couple div tags. The rest of the time was devoted solely to CSS and graphics work and I was able to do the CSS part in less than a day each time. None of that helps my lousy design skills but when redesigning is this easy it’s a shame more people aren’t taking advantage of what CSS can do for them.

Responses to my articleYou know what would be great?
Not to have to move those div tags at all with CSS.
Well, maybe it’s too much to ask…
Julián: No, what you mean to say is “not to have to use div tags with CSS.” I’m planning to write a blog entry on why that problem still exists and what would have to be done to fix it, but in the meantime I’m happy with only having to move a couple tags.
