I found my way to the site for Overseer CMS today and I read the usual glowy blurb followed by “coming November 2006.” People, please don’t do this. I don’t care how busy you are developing your product; if you are going to have an online presence, take it seriously. The minute that I see some “coming soon” message with a date long gone in the past, I’ve lost all interest in keeping up with your project to know when it will be released. If you aren’t going to provide some sort of feed or e-mail sign-up for me to know when you launch, at least keep your information up to date. It’s a lot more important than you might think.

Responses to my articleI’m friends with the guy who is releasing Overseer, he posted a little note on his blog explaining his absence. http://neo-geek.net/?p=journal&id=30.
I understand that he has a note at his blog, I’m just saying that he really ought to update the page at overseercms.com. A lot of small projects make the same mistake and the developers don’t realize how much they hurt the brand reputation of their product when it happens. I’m just using Overseer CMS as an example here; there are a lot more out there that have done the same.
