5 reasons I blog
Posted on March 1.
I've been tagged by GANB. This is a very emotional moment for me… this is the very first time I have ever been tagged in a blog meme… but enough about the magnanimity of this moment. Here are, truth be told, the 5 reasons for why I blog:
- To share my knowledge. Whether I'm sharing web design techniques or advice about Cornell, I love to share what I know. Whenever I learn something new, whether by discovery or experience, I always have a big urge to tell others. Blogging gives me a way to do that, and through it I can reach an audience who are interested in hearing what I have to say. Every now and then I'll see ideas that I promoted being used on the web, and that gives me a really great feeling.
- To get famous. I wasn't blessed with much for acting skills or musical ability. I might be charismatic but I don't see myself as a jet-setter. I'm really good looking but I'm not cut out for the modeling industry. Blogging just might be my claim to fame, and I like being able to tell people that I'm "famous online."
- To meet people. When my mom was just a little kid, she had pen-pals. She would use this archaic form of e-mail on dead trees called "letters" and she relied on the US Postal Service to get these paper e-mails to other kids around the world. It was crazy stuff; you had to attach "stamps" (which were more like stickers) that actually cost money and if you wanted to send an attachment you had to drop it into the envelope that held the letter. Large attachments required a bigger envelope which meant more stamps! Even worse, these paper e-mails took days, even weeks to send. There were no auto-responders either… you had to wait for the recipient's reply which usually took just as long. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with tribulations like that. Blogging has made it very easy for me to meet people, and 9rules played a big part in that. I consider quite a few people to be "blogging pals," and fortunately it doesn't cost me anything to communicate with them.
- To write. I was big on creative writing in grade school. I haven't touched it since I started college, but blogging is definitely the way I keep my writing skills toned. I like writing a lot and I especially like to make people laugh.
- To make money. I don't think this needs any explanation, but I will say this: I consider blogging to be a job. It's work that I love to do and I don't think that the monetization of it has taken away my drive for it. If anything, money has been a motivating factor and it is the only reason why I can justify the amount of time I put into it.
So there's my 5 reasons… now here are the 5 people that I'm tagging on this one:
Looking forward to your reasons everyone!
