I said I wouldn’t Twitter

Posted March 17 in Flock It.

I told everyone I would never use Twitter… the idea of updating your public “status message” to keep everyone you think cares informed about every little thing you are doing is rock-bottom stupid to me. I insisted I wouldn’t waste my time with it, wouldn’t jump on the bandwagon, wouldn’t go with the flow.

Then my server was down all day Thursday and I got to thinking… it would be nice to have some place where I could update people on the status of my sites so they know what’s going on.

And then I was flying out of Ithaca on Friday and I got stranded in NYC because of the snowstorm and I got to thinking… I wish I had published my status so everyone would have known that I was traveling today.

Now I’m finally at a friend’s house in New Jersey waiting out the storm and as soon as I got my laptop open I didn’t hesitate to sign up for Twitter. No, I won’t be posting every little thing I’m doing there, and I won’t be getting updates on my phone, but I now have a place where I can share important info about what I’m up to and I will probably even import that info to my website. Considering that I work online, play online and keep in touch with others online, I’d say this is something worth doing.

So I’m sort of on the Twitter wagon now… here’s to eating my words.

  1. Ah well, you put up a good case for signing up.

It’s not something that interests me. Not at this moment anyway.

    Ciao

is Facebook any different from Twister

  3. Christian Montoya March 17, 2007

Johan: Completely different. Facebook is a closed social network where you can share all sorts of stuff about yourself…. Twitter is like taking just the “status update” portion and dedicating an entire network to just that. To be honest, Twitter can be more useful if you need a way to keep people updated.

Yeah, I ate mine too. It’s pretty amazing that such a simple online tool (it’s pretty much an exact replica of an AIM away message of people who never sign off AIM) has become so popular.

Yeah, I am about to be kicked out of my apartment so I would like the people that I love to know what is going on.

    VIsiting your site via 9rules.

Months ago, I said I wouldn’t join Twitter either. But last week I gave in. It’s exciting sort-of for the moment. I don’t know how long that’ll last for me though.
