I saw the music video for “Stronger” by Kanye West today. The video is directed by Hype Williams and it features cameos by Daft Punk and Cassie. I was interested in the song for a while before it came out because it samples a song by Daft Punk, and they are credited as songwriters.
20 seconds into the video, I realized something that became very obvious by the end: it’s very reminiscent of the 1988 Anime film, Akira. Watching the video a few times made me want to watch the movie again, so I did, and while watching it I discovered that there were multiple scenes in Hype’s music video that are almost copied straight from Akira. It was to the point that the music video didn’t even feel original.
So I had this idea… I figured I would take screen captures of the film and the video and put them side by side so you can see how many similarities I found. I put the screen captures together with Akira on the left. Here’s what I came up with (click any picture to view it full-size at Flickr):
From the very first lab scene, it’s obvious that Kanye is supposed to be Tetsuo. The 3D machine in the music video is an exact replica of the one from the film.
The motorcycles in the music video are very plain compared to the film but the light trails are identical.
The music video has some lousy riot scenes which are based on the very well-done riot scenes in the film.
It’s the nurse. Despite the change in camera angle, her pose is exactly the same.
The bed scene is made to be as similar as possible, but Tetsuo is much more convincing than Kanye. Tetsuo looks like he’s in serious pain; Kanye just looks like he’s crying.
Tetsuo looks mad. Kanye looks hungry.
Look closely; the uniforms are the same.
When Tetsuo owned the soldiers, it was scary. Kanye didn’t have the same effect.
Guess what? They both glow red.
Now let me say a couple things — first, this song isn’t very good. The song by Daft Punk is very good, and the song it was based on was good too… this song, without the samples of Daft Punk’s song, is just OK. Kanye’s rapping isn’t very good. His lyrics are dumb. Etc. etc. But all that is bearable. It’s typical pop-rap music fare. A remix of a remix of a remix. What is really unbearable is this music video. It has cool graphics and some nice cinematography, but the story is a mess. Akira has a very complex and well thought-out story; you have to watch it a few times to get it, but it all fits together. There’s a lot of stuff in this music video that doesn’t make any sense. Why are people rioting with the police? What do the motorcycles have to do with anything? Where’s the connection between the laboratory and the girl at the club? What’s with the random characters (the man in the white jacket that crosses the street and the asian girl on the street at night) that appear for a few moments and aren’t seen again? Even if you have seen the movie, a lot of these things still don’t make sense. Without the obvious references to Akira, the music video is even more vacuous. It’s a mess. I mean, if you are going to copy a classic film, you might as well do it right. You may as well do it with a bit of relevance.
But I’m looking for your opinion: with the amount of scenes that are copied from Akira in this music video, would you call this a homage or just a rip-off? What’s your take on it?
P.S. Go ahead, digg this.

Responses to my articleI thought you’re being a bit harsh … until I saw the video.
The big problem was that Kanye slept walked through that thing, and it just made me want to watch the original akira all over again ;(
Maybe there’s an Akira movie about to be announced, and the song is featured there? This is obviously a copy. Maybe they paid for the rights?
Mr. Mojo: Yeah, Kanye’s dancing is laughable at times. Cassie seemed much more awake.
Julián: I’ve heard speculation about a live-action Akira in the works, but there’s no evidence that it’s being done. From reading about the making of the video, it really just seems like either Hype or Kanye had an idea to copy Akira. I have no idea if they paid for any rights… I just know they went to Japan to film it.
That’s an awesome post to start with. Well done. I can’t say much about the film/video since I haven’t seen either (I did see Tetsuo II - Body Hammer, 1992… are they related?) What is obvious though is that if it’s a homage, it’s done very poorly. It may not be a rip-off legally, but it looks awful. Can’t even begin to imagine what that remixed-remixed song sounds like.
That is quite possibly the worst song I have ever heard. He ruined it big time. I like the concept of the video though.
When I first saw this video, I was more interested in Daft Punk’s part than Kanye. I had to watch it a second time to focus on his lyrics and realize that he says stupid things like, “you can be my black Kate Moss.” Boy needs help with his rhymes.
Anyway, I thought it was just me who didn’t get the video sequence, but I guess I know now.
I feel you’re definitely being too harsh here. but you’re entitled to your opinion so I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong
get over it anime losers.
First off, the song is great. If you don’t think so, I think millions of people will think otherwise.
Next, Kanye and Hype are huge fans of Akira, so don’t get all offended because they like the movie and wanted to do something different than the avergae rap music video.
Lastly, you wish you could make out with Cassie too.
@come on… : OK? So?
@K-Sean: So you don’t like Anime? That doesn’t change the fact that Kanye’s video is unoriginal.
@calm down: Millions of people like bad music. Spice Girls are going on tour this year… what do you think of them?
Now Kanye and Hype might be huge fans of Akira… so are a lot of people. That doesn’t excuse them from making such a crappy video. Take out all the scenes that are based on Akira, and what’s left is a really poor music video.
Oh, and I’m engaged to be married with someone, so I’m not interested in making out with Cassie at all.
you guys are all stupid…how the dare u ***in say that song is wack, and this dude who wrote the article is on crack, cuz he obviously doesn’t like rap, go write a ***in editorial on country if thas what floats ur boat but leave rap alone, kanye’s version was great, and if u didn’t like the video, now that is debatable, cuz i didn’t even like the video at first but i grew to like it, but shut the *** up about the song
@\, thee african wonda: I’m not on crack, and there are some rap songs I like. I’m just not so much into the contemporary stuff, because 99% of the songs are all about the same things: sex & money. Rap used to be really provocative and it made you think; nowadays it doesn’t mean anything. For someone like Kanye who claims to be different than other rappers, I haven’t seen it.
But this article is not about the song, it’s about the video. So let’s keep things on topic, okay?
I just had to delete a comment because it contained a personal attack against me. If I receive any more direct attacks, I will close the comments on this topic.
waaa! someone said something mean about me on the internets! i’m taking my toys and going home!
mind: This is not the internets, it’s my website. I pay a lot of money every month to afford the server that runs this and all of my other domains, and I won’t be using that money to host direct insults made by other people toward me.
Umm… Maybe you’re new to the planet, but this sort of thing happens all the time. Is there anything from the West camp that would imply that this isn’t based on/inspired by Akira?
I’ve seen this video and immediately thought it was an intentional homage to Akira. That is, I don’t think they were trying to rip off Akira, but paying respect to it. You could accuse other music videos for “ripping off” scenes from other classic movies. (Jared Leto’s band had a video last year that was an obvious homage to Kubrick’s Shining.)
Now, whether you like the song or not, or whether you think they did a lousy job of copying Akira — well, that’s another issue.
I think the video is just a really really badly done homage to Akira..
Just like the super mario movie.. starring Bob Hoskins as mario… very comparable in crapness to kanye’s video!
Someone needs to look up the meaning of the word “tribute”.
I dont see what the big deal is music video directors have been paying homage toi their inspirations for a long time now from Pulp Fiction Indiana Jones.
hey montoya you completely miss the point of what the video is about. music videos don’t need to make sense! this video is about the STYLE and it tries to communicate unapologetically from the get-go that it is a homage to Akira, this is obvious! to compare the scenes with screenshots is completely ridiculous. do you think the director cares that the narrative does not make sense from beggining to end? the narrative is inconsequential; this is a MUSIC VIDEO. i am not saying this kanye west video is well done or interesting, it’s throw-away at best just like most pop videos are - but you are totally missing the point in any case.
art does not exist in a vacuum, people have been appropriating ideas for decades. this article is typical of the reddit readership and tech blogosphere, people who like to think they are above pop-culture.
perhaps a look at some art history 101…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodern_art
Too bad some people are so biased they’re not even capable of seeing beyond their own pile of droppings.
Clearly this attempt of paying hommage to Akira (and Daft Punk) fails miserabely due to poor execution mixed with lousy insight in own persona’s level of greatness. If this had been done in a clever way, adding something to the film, it might have passed. This is just a copy, where the whole context is missed completely. Even diluted with foulness and bad karma. If Kayne West was a great artist, he wouldn’t do stuff like this. Nuff said!
To everyone who liked/defended this music video. How can you say this is good, I mean, first of all, if you’re gonna do a homage to something, do it right, an do it well, it seems like he just glanced over the movie and though “That parts quite good, we’ll use that” then ruined a perfectly good daft punk song, with his lame rapping ability, and nonsensical lyrics to feed to the tone deaf MTV generation, knowing they’re gonna buy it. and by the way Patrick, calling something post-modern art doesn’t make it good/cool, especially when it’s as bad as that, it’s a disgrace to the actual good postmodern artists.
I liked it. I thought it was awesome they paid tribute to Akira, I don’t see what the big deal is. I was actually quite surprised to see a negative spin on it when I followed the link from reddit.
Awesomeness degrades quickly these days, it seems.
Akira is awesome. Kayne West is a leech. So is his video.
You are correct. This is not an homage, it is a rip-off. If West was such a big fan, he would have put some sort of credit or acknowledgment in the vid.
Secondly, you are also correct to delete comments from clowns. Don’t bother to tell us you have done it - we don’t even need to hear about it. If someone is rude or stupid, just bin the comment. We trust your judgment.
Cheers.
As someone that knows very little of Anime or Rap I’m not even sure why I bothered with reading the article. I wouldn’t know Anime from the Animaniacs or Kanye West from Adam West. I do, however, see the similarities in the shots above and would understand some frustration from a fan of Akira especially if the music video didn’t measure up to where they thought it should. (Just because someone doesn’t like the same things as you doesn’t mean they’re ignorant, or a goof. It just means they like different stuff.)
Looks like a COMPLETE FUCKING RIPOFF. Hype Williams is an uncreative jackass.
Thanks Babson.
To people visiting from Reddit: I didn’t want to give the impression that I am passing my opinion off as fact here. To me, the music video felt like a rip-off, but I am enjoying the discussion here and I like the arguments from both sides.
It’s clear that it’s the very same scenes, in fact it’s so obvious that I don’t even have the feeling that they tried to hide it.
But the question I ask myself as an artist, is what make music so different of movies or other forms of expression ? Because no body will ever say “hey he just resampled the Amen Break and added some armonies, it’s a complete ripoff !”.
So why resampling other art forms is not welcome ? I think we should ask ourself.
First, it’s not a ripoff, it’s an homage. They were trying to make the connection to Akira blatantly obvious. Now ask yourself this: who the fuck in ‘mainstream’ culture knows anything about 80s anime? They were trying to make a nod to the people who know about this stuff, and you’re just turning around and calling them ripoff artists.
Second, I think the song is much better than you give it credit for. Kanye is an interesting guy. He’s obviously a star in every negative sense of the word, but at the same time, he’s completely aware of the absurdity that comes along with that, and he swings between using that stardom as a platform (a chart topper about the evils of blood diamonds), mocking the people who latch on to that stardom, and just absolutely reveling in the obscene lifestyle that comes with being a rapstar. I’m not saying he’s a “great artist” or anything like that, but he’s definitely not 50 Cent, either.
wow im disappointed. a music video is about STYLE! hardly any music videos have a well-thought out narrative.
as for the song, kanye’s song is awesome, and clearly daft punk didn’t mind, because they are credited as songwriters, cleared the sample and appear in the video.
the neptunes rmx’d harder, better, faster, stronger (my fave dp song by the way) and it was good too. and swizz beats used a daft punk song for ‘touch it’. electronic music is at its core a derivative genre, and hip hop is at its core — electronic music, so its a given that a revolutionary band like daft punk was going to be sampled sooner or later.
lastly, the hard drums that were added to the song, the chopped up vocal loop, the elongated musical hook at the end are all fundamental hip hop additions, so they def. added some creativity to the original track.
im kind of ashamed that youre a cornell alum, you would think you would be a bit more open-minded. i guess not..
A: I am open-minded, I just happen to have a different opinion than you. Thanks for respectfully sharing your opinion, but no thanks for not respecting mine.
And I do like many of the remixes of Daft Punk songs, I just think that Kanye’s song doesn’t compare to a lot of them. That’s also an opinion. It has nothing to do with where I went to school.
The video was pretty boring, probably because it was based on Akira, which was also pretty boring.
However, I’m glad they made it, because nothing is more fun for me than to watch the nerd tantrums that commence. First he dare sample the holiest of holies, Daft Punk. Then he rips off anime!
I like the song alright, though. Not Kanye’s best work, but decent.
A friend of mine sent me a link to this. First I thought this was just one of those unions that should never have happened.
Then I realized, this is a Hype Williams directed music video. Sure he did that nice Busta Rhymes music video that’s apparently “the best hip hop video EVAH!” but after that, it kinda goes downhill. My guess; he saw Akira and because “Japanese stuff is soooo cooool” he just did it just to do it.
Then again, Kanye probably saw the movie and wanted to go for it (and for that I give him props for even wanting to do that) but I just think he should have gone with another director because the whole thing is so disjointed. It had potential to be awesome and it just became yet another MTV hip-hop video.
Watch, this will get nominated for Breakthrough Video this year.
As for the song itself, I dunno it’s kinda catchy. I really having nothing against Kanye as I like some of his music. My reason for liking this song is the same logic as jamming to a song in another language. You may have no idea what they’re saying but it’s a decent tune to have playing in the background while you’re working on something.
retreats back to the Shadows
PS - danger, I do have to agree. Watching anime fan tantrums is fun ^_^
yes the video is bad, but the nitpicking here is a bit OTT
expecting a pop music video to have the same depth and complexity as the (overrated) movie is a bit siily. however i agree that the identikit copying drags the quality down. taking the akira concept and making it more relevant to the song would make it more interesting (in my opinion) for everyone to watch.
who’s up for 50 cent meets Evangelion?
I dunno if it has been mentioned, but the Asian girl in the street is Cassie and she is all throughout the video. IMO, she is the best part of the video and the effects are cool, but generally speaking I agree with you.
CD, what??? The asian girl in the street is not Cassie, Cassie is black and this girl is asian (presumably Japanese). Like I said, there are two random characters in the video, one man (white?) with a white jacket who is crossing the street after the motorcycles pass, and one asian girl in a purple-print dress who is standing at an intersection doing, well, nothing. I can post screen captures if you need me to.
It was a total ripoff. Its another ploy for rappers to steal people’s ideas to make them look original. Its all the producers anyway because people like him don’t even write the music. They just play a f***ing act.
i have been waiting for an akira move with real people for some time now. But i would like to see it based on the 5 or 6 part comic book series. If anyone hasn’t seen or read them yet, take a look, it is truly an epic story with killer art, that would make an unreal trillogy. BTW, in the comics, Akira is actually alive… not just in jars
Montoya: I watched the video again and I think that, besides the nurse, Cassie is the only woman in the scenes. You’re right, she’s not Asian, but CD is right in pointing out that’s it’s her.
It’s funny how although she’s trying to get a start in singing, all they keep hiring her for is to be the pretty face.
(Yeah, this was off topic, but at least it was not offensive like some of the other off-topic comments I’ve read here.)
wow, you people need to chill with these comments.
Its just a topic to discuss, not to bite each other necks with vulgar words >.>
just like C.Montoya said, this is just HIS opinion, you are free to express yours, but please in moderation
LOL @ themutant with “who’s up for 50 cent meets Evangelion?” xD
Wow, this blog and some of the comments are flat out pathetic. No KIDDING it’s influenced by Akira. That’s the whole point of some of the scenes being obviously similar. Are you people really this dense? Seriously, get the hate out of your blood for Kanye and write something relevent and worthy for once.
Hate? No, no. Just because the guy is a pathetic rip-off scam, and we point to that, doesn’t mean we hate. We simply shed some light on the troll. Funny how many little trolls come out to protect him.
Am I the only fan of Akira who loved this video?
Does that make me an idiot?
Jazz: You are reading a blog, something that is vapid in itself. What do you expect? Plus, nobody here is hating on Kanye. He’s a talented guy. His video is just lame.
john q: Of course not! Liking it wouldn’t make you an idiot… it might make people think you are, but that’s just their opinion
Just a few of my thoughts:
I don’t see this as a “scam” cause Kanye will more than likely not be benifiting by “ripping off” Akira. A shoddy as the video may appear, it’s still quite evident he spent a LOT of money on it and dedicated a LOT of effort. He could of just hired some girls to dance half naked, throw around borrowed or counterfeit money, drive around in a rented sleek sports car, and swim in a huge rented pool for a lot less money. Not to mention, such a video would appeal to the targeted audience (teens) a lot better than this video. I can see a lot of teens scoffing at it because they don’t understand it. Point being, I think Kanye took a real artistic risk with this video in the midst of the prevalence of unoriginal and buffoonish rap videos we see today.
A lot of people have said it’s a horrible “homage” to Akira. While I won’t explicitly disagree, I do think it should be considered the fact that Kanye had to fit a 2000+ page long Manga and a two hour + video into a five minute music video. Although I’m not saying other people wouldn’t do a better job, I don’t think anyone could create a “perfect” homage to Akira that captures its complex plot in five minutes.
I can see this video as possibly rekindling interest in Akira again. I know when I saw this I started freaking out cause I haven’t thought about Akira in years. I think there’s definately gonna be people out there intrigued by the video enough to go out and look for Akira to watch it. In that case, the hardcore Akira fans may have to appreciate Kanye’s work.
I think, with all due respect, this is a case where people can’t stand to see their favorite work reinterpreted in any way. I don’t know if any of you guys remember, but when Akira was first released as a anime some of the manga fans were going crazy saying Otomo was messing up his manga by making the film so different and marginalizing Akira’s role so much.
To the writer of the peace, again no disrespect meant, but in my opinion it would benefit your articles in the future if you tried to take on a more subjective tone. For example, you say “Tetsuo looks mad. Kanye looks hungry.” which is basically a matter of opinion. Also, when you say, “The bed scene is made to be as similar as possible, but Tetsuo is much more convincing than Kanye. Tetsuo looks like he’s in serious pain; Kanye just looks like he’s crying”, it is again an opinion but you could have at least backed it up with an explanation. Did Tetsuo writhe around more than Kanye? Did Kanye just clutch his head and not move? Did Tetuso’s grimace look more convincing than Kanye’s. Finally, although you’re certainly allowed to voice your opinion regarding the song and generalize pop music in general it really has nothing to with the subject at hand, whether Kanye unfairly ripped off Akira or paid homage to it.
“GEORGE BUSH DOESN’T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!”
More proof that Kanye is about as ignorant and no-talent as they come.
Oh snap did you hear? Tupac isn’t dead, he just got sucked into his Monster Rancher disc.
Whoa…you opened a can of worms here Christian. Too bad that so many people took your article as an attack on Kanye or rap music in general.
Anyway, to the main point of your post. In my opinion it’s a ripoff, the scenes are almost exact replicas of Akira. If Kanye had meant the music video to be a homage, he should have recognised Akira, just as Daft Punk received songwriter credits.
On the upside, the music video did make me want to watch Akira again. It’s still a great anime.
Kudos to you for removing personal attacks. I’m sick of commenters who are so bigoted they can’t tolerate different opinions without reverting to obscene language and personal insults to drive home their point of view.
@tak: I didn’t mean for my article to sound so “subjective,” some parts were intended to be in good humor. Aside from my opinion on the quality of the music video, the screen captures were intended as “look here, see the similarities,” not as defending the Akira movie as one might have defended the manga.
man i think u got it all wrong. i mean its a music video. its inspired by akira and the director did a helluva job gettin the akira athmosphere or whatever into the video. ur basically sayin that the video doesnt make sense cause the storyline is wack. why does a music video have to tell a story? its not like they tried to tell tetsous story in a 4minute video. i mean akira is very complex and bout two hours long - obviously they just used the akira style and all for the video. and dont tell me the scenes with kanye and that girl or the scene with that white dude crossin the street dont make sense just because they aint got nothin to do with akira.
all i m sayin is that u shouldt compare the two. ones a movie and the other one is a f***in hommage. its not a rip off as its just a four minute video that tries to resemble the great atmosphere of akira.
Yeah, I think the video is just to create the whole vibe of Akira, and it’s done in a very creative way, I like Hype’s visual style.
I think the video should be respected by all, because it’s way more creative than the avarage Hip-Hop/Pop/RnB video. I think it should have credit only because of that fact.
Montoya, you just gotta appreciate that the song sounds different than the avarage MTV-s*** and that the video is also much different than the avarage MTV-s***, Akira rip-off or not.
Sorry for my strange English, I’m Dutch.
Bregonje: I understand your point, but as creative and against-the-mainstream as this video may be in the Hip-Hop/Pop/RnB space, there’s a ton of creative videos in the Techno and Rock spaces, many which feature original storylines or visual ideas that don’t rely on existing works for scenes. So yes, this video will probably get a lot of awards and acclaim for being an usual Hip-Hop video, and it definitely is more entertaining than the majority of those videos, but I really don’t consider it a great music video.
If this video does pick up awards (which, given the vapid, formulaic vids comprise the genre for the most part) I am willing to take bets that when accepting the awards nothing along the following lines are said :
“Thanks for the award and thanks to that Jap dude for that Akira thing we were paying tribute to”
or
“Thanks for the award and thanks to our graphic design team and their mad plagiarizing skillz”
I just have one question, did Kanye and the producers get permission from Toho Company and Katsuhiro Otome (the owners of Akira) in order to make this music video? I don’t want to see another repeat of the Korean MV and FF issue…. ^^;
Yeah, I understand what you mean Montoya, I know that Hype Williams isn’t (for example) a Cunningham and that Kanye West isn’t an experimental artist like Aphex Twin.
They can’t just go and make a video know that both are mainstream artists, one in music and the other in music videos. If they do, they will lose credibility from the mainstream audience, which is the audience they rely on.
I think It’s a succesful attempt to make an ‘experimental’ song and video, knowing that both Kanye and Hype only have experience in the mainstream world.
They bring something new to the mainstream world, maybe not as original as they think they are, but at least they try their best. And for me, that’s enough to give em some credibility.
the video is o.k in my books. the lyrics somewhat match to the video. they managed to pull off a decent/creative video that would still be accepted in mainstream music and still be related to akira. so i give BIG props to them. it targets a huge fan-base…google related stuff to this and you’ll see that it is spreading like wildfire in just a few days. so it is smart for the prooducers to make this video.
if i would rate the video out of ten excluding the fact that i like anime and its smart to target such a big audience. 7/10
otherwise i would rate it 9/10
if kanye did like the movie im sure he would give credit….(rolls eyes)
it’s a music video, it doesn’t need to have context, It would be pointless to try to throw in Akira’s storyline into a 3min video. I’m pretty sure he gives credit, and acknowledges it by doing these frame-for-frame recreations of the movie. Basically he’s giving props to Daft Punk and Akira, and exposing them to a younger, mainstream clueless audience. And culturing these kids isn’t that bad of a thing. (oh no suddenly semi-underground stuff I like will be known by the masses, does that mean i’m not cool anymore?) Not the end of the world people. The song is good for kanye, And kanye isn’t that great, but just listen to some of the crap on radio or MTV. This is top dollar gold compared to some of that sht. sad ain’t it
Well my opinion on the music video that has been so extensively discussed on this blog,is that its not only in the degree if interesting, but good. Its not the best or “the s***” to have ever been done this year or ever. But its definitely new to Kanye and Hype im sure with this venture into this type of video. And they wanted it to be known that the video was a tribute or just simply for recognition for the 80s anime that is acclaimed a classical best in anime world.so cut the guy a break and the lyrics were decent, but not his best work.
The Kanye cover BLOWS.
I’m a fan of hiphop as well as anime, and even i can admit that the song sucked. Kanye West is a talented, albeit arrogant, artist, this is below par for him. However, in reference to the video, i noticed that next to every screen capture, you would praise Akira, and insult Kanye……………
@Vincent: And? Put the hamster on the wheel and deduce… I thought the animation & character work in Akira was good, and I thought Kanye’s attempt at acting was bad. That’s called opinion, and this is called The Montoya Herald.
You’re very biased against hip-hop. I bet if some metal group did a daft punk sampling and made an Akira music video, you’d be praising it, regardless of its suckage.
This video is semi-typical of Kanye, as he doesn’t have mainstream, run-of-the-mill videos, Its unique, and if anything, I bet its homage, or an easter egg of sorts, for people who know Akira. If he wanted to make a live action Akira, thats what he would have done. He has the money…
Stop being ignorant.
Also, in case you didn’t notice, Kanye also pays homage to Daft Punk. The two robot headed people are DEFINITELY a daft punk reference.
Upas, what in the world is wrong with you? Let me break it down into bullet points for you:
If people would stop assuming things about me based on their own reactions to my analysis, we could go back to having a respectful discussion. Otherwise, we don’t need to discuss at all.
And Upas, you are the ignorant one here. Grow up.
@Christian Montoya: i disagree with u so much especially with ur last post, the one u were so gracious to break down in bullet points for those ignoramuses that disagree with ur opinions, well at least thats what u make it out to seem.u probably followed up the background of the video so u would know for sure that those guys were indeed daft punk, though i thought the same when i first say the video.U said quote “They are also not very creative compared to some of the best videos produced for songs by rock and techno groups.” u r so judgmental and wrong with that comment.i dont know u so i wont make any assumption as to which rock group u fav or prefer, but who ever it is,i know for a fact they do the same mainstream mediocre rock vids and songs about the same shit.By thew way Kanye is a producer that makes really great beats that he is praised for by many artists, even those in different genres, and hes a directors,as he hav directed many of his and others music videos.u can go look that up as ur home work ok.if i come off as rude well too bad,but i am not directly insulting you or any1 else so i hope u dont delete this post like u said u hav done with others that hav displeased u.Kanye is new to the music industry,at least at this caliber.hes a guy that likes to be innovative and new,and what i rate about him too is that hes not afraid to do it.however weird and criticized his work be be subjected to.hes not a college boy that got a degree in this field,so hes feeling out his creativity, skills and just doing what he likes to do.so its like a learning process u could also say for him, this is my opinions and facts.u also hav ur own and im not trying to make u change ur view pint cuz i dont care, but i want u to open ur mind and get off that tread mill or one lane road ur mind is running on ok,peace out.
@David: You really opened up my eyes. I feel really sorry for Kanye now, I mean, he never had the opportunity to go to college, because that’s just for rich people, and he’s still getting by, he’s an artist, and I’ve been very judgmental of him, but the reality is that he’s changing this industry, and nobody realizes it, and he should win more awards, and I should praise him for what he does, because his beats are insane, and I’ve been running on this treadmill for years, ever since I was born, and I just need to get off it, and run around the gym, and find out what the world is all about, because there’s a whole life to live out there, and nobody really knows the truth until they start running, and THE COMMENTS ARE CLOSED RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE IT JUST ISN’T GOING TO GET ANY FUNNIER THAN THIS.
Peace out.
