22 is coming just in time

Posted June 29 in Asides.

Enjoy your iGroans, people. I know what I want for my birthday: the Ocean.

Update 7-01: Nevermind. It turns out the Ocean lacks some key features I really need, like syncing with my PC and support for Opera Mini. It looks like I will have to pass on Helio service entirely. Now I have no idea what cellular provider or cellphone to get :(

Hey read your post and took a look at the Ocean. I am currently with Cingular but they have horrible service. I haven’t really heard alot about Helio’s how are they? Why did you decide on this model?

Helio says they have the largest 3G network in the U.S. They only have 3 phones, the Drift, the Heat, and the Ocean, all made by Samsung. The Ocean is their top of the line phone, and the only one with a QWERTY keyboard.

But what really sealed the deal for me is that a friend I met last weekend had an Ocean. I asked her about her phone service and she said it was great. She was able to access Google Maps on her phone anywhere. I had a look at the Ocean and I wanted one of my own. I’m just hoping that Helio has good service in Virginia.

I am still looking for me. I have been looking at the [Blackberry Curve] (http://paulstamatiou.com/2007/06/12/review-blackberry-curve/). But the Cingular/AT&T data plans suck. They have good data plans for the iphone but that is it. Sprint has great data plans but their phones suck. They are releasing a new phone the Blackberry 8703 that sounds promising.

I’ve been happy as a clam since I got my treo:

Live updating googlemaps (with Traffic!), gmail, mp3 player, and Opera Mini if that’s your thing … It is also an ugly beige brick, but I consider that a statement.

One question Mr…. does it sync with Windows? I had a PDA a few years ago with a very good version of Outlook Mobile and I’m going to try to keep a unified calendar between my laptop and my smartphone when I start living on my own.
