A game for your Friday afternoon

Posted on September 7, 2007.

TGIF, and what better day to share with you a game I made for work. It's called Tickers and the premise of the game is this:

Usually it's obvious which ticker symbols belong to which companies; for example, MSFT belongs to Microsoft and GOOG belongs to Google, but did you know that some companies have unusual ticker symbols? Can you guess which of these symbols belong to which companies?

So that's the challenge… guess which of the weird ticker symbols belong to which companies. There's 6 levels of 5 tickers each and you need at least 3 right in each level to move on. Winning gets you, well, bragging rights.

If anyone is wondering, I built the game with jQuery on top of PHP and MySQL… there's no AJAX, simply because there's no need for it (and the stability & security are easier to manage without asynchronous requests).

And had you asked me if I thought that making games would be part of my job description someday, I would have responded with a tearful no. But I made a game. For work. Good times.

p.s. if you like the game, let all the Diggers know.
