My new title

Posted on December 7, 2007.

I quit my job last Friday. My job wasn't bad, but I have these delusions of grandeur… that I'm really good at what I do, that I want to be working on "cutting edge" things, that I belong in an environment full of smart developers, that I should be creating things and the things I create will be great. I didn't have any of that at my current job (i'm writing this now during my 'final 2-week wrap-up') so I'm moving on.

I'll be spending the last two weeks of December in Miami, to get back on track with things, do some big "planning and thinking," and get out of this God-forsaken winter weather. Who knew Virginia could be so cold?

When I get back (Jan. 3rd), I'll be starting in my new role as "Social Game Developer" at Freewebs. If you are wondering how I got this opportunity, I'll tell you: they saw what I was doing with DotA and Social Tags, figured I would be the right kind of guy for their social gaming division, and brought me in for some interviews. The opportunity was a no-brainer for me; I'm going to be turning my hobby into my day job, I'm going to have the resources to build the complex games I've had in my head for a long time, and I'm going to learn cool new things (like Ruby on Rails).

So, big changes over here. I'll be moving to Maryland next month, since Freewebs is based in Silver Spring and my apartment community has a location in Rockville. Depending on how things go, I should have more time to work on cool things outside of my job too, like layout tools for Blueprint, playing with the Javascript game library, and improving my handful of sites. And hopefully, in a couple months, I'll have some cool new stuff to show off, so just watch this space. Around here, you hear it first :)

Congratz on your job! Treat your fiance to something nice! (And don't forget your wedding planning when you're in Miami)

concerned reader: Actually, I'm flat broke right now. Maybe if I could get someone to buy some advertising from me, then I could treat my fiancEE (I'm straight) to something nice, but as it is, it's not gonna happen.

Congrats! They seem much cooler than your previous place. Make sure you never end up debugging Perl until 6:30 ever again. ;)
