iPhone game review: The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes (5/5)

Posted on March 16, 2010.

I was recently given the opportunity to review The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes by Legacy Interactive. I was pleasantly surprised with this hidden object / mystery solving game. I'll break down what I like about it in a few points:

The graphics are superb

This game features a ton of artwork and it's impressive to look at. In the game you must visit different rooms in a mansion and find clues that will help you solve each case. Each room is highly detailed, while the interfaces are equally well made. The only downside is that some rooms can be too complex for the iPhone's small screen, but that doesn't make the game any less playable.

The replay value is very high

In each case, you have to find all the clues strewn about the various rooms, and then you must decide who committed the crime, which weapon they used, and what their motive was. Each round is randomly generated so you will probably never get the same puzzle twice. This means that if you enjoy this kind of game, you'll have endless hours of gameplay ahead of you. You can also get your friends involved and see how fast you can find all the clues and solve the mysteries.

It's educational

I can see this being a great game for kids that are comfortable with a bit of reading. Besides the obvious visual comprehension skills associated with a hidden object game, the actual mystery solving involves both reading comprehension and reasoning skills. If you are looking for a mentally stimulating game for a child, you should definitely check this one out.

Those are just a few of the things that I like about this gem of a game. If I had to give it a rating on a 5 star scale, I would give it 5 stars.
